Sexual Health Educator Certificate Programs: (Next sequence beginning September 2008)

(Note: The content of these certificates has been designed to address American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists' requirements for certification but are appropriately used in a variety of credentialed applications.)

Primary Certificate - a minimum of thirty clock hours of education in the following core areas:
- Sexual and reproductive anatomy/physiology.
- Developmental sexuality (from conception through old age) from a psychological, sociological, and biological perspective.
- Dynamics of interpersonal relationships.
- Gender-related issues.
- Sexual orientations and gender identities.

Intermediate Certificate - a minimum of thirty clock hours of education in the following core areas:
- Socio-cultural factors (ethnicity, culture, religiosity, socioeconomic status) in sexual values and behavior.
- Relationship and family dynamics.
- Health factors that may influence sexuality including illness, disability, drugs, abortion, pregnancy, contraception, fertility, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmissible infections, and safer sex practices.
- Sexual exploitation, including sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual assault.

Advanced Certificate - a minimum of thirty clock hours of education in the following core areas:
- Sexuality research principles.
- Learning theory and application.
- Presentation skills.
- Diversity in sexual expression.
