Human Sexuality courses have been offered by the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing since the spring semester, 1971.  The courses have continued to evolve reflecting change in student needs as well as the course content requirements for AASECT certification.  Today the program offers courses through the College of Nursing and through the Feinstein College of Continuing Education that are relevant as well as appropriate in both content and method of presentation.

NUR150 Introduction to Human Sexuality:

An interdisciplinary approach to the study of individual and societal determinants in the development, integration, and expression of human sexuality and a code of sexual behavior. Usually offered Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, offering 3 credits that satisfy the General Education requirements for a Social Science. The course is offered both in a face-to-face, lecture format and as a web course.

NUR459 Perspectives on Male and Female Sexuality :

Examination of the multifaceted perspectives (somatic, emotional, ethical, cultural) on male and female sexuality.  Topics include history and recent developments in sexology research, therapy, role and gender issues. 3 credits. Prerequisite: NUR150 or permission of instructor. Next offered in Spring, 2009.

NUR467 Independent Study in Human Sexuality:

A specifically designed learning experience for the theoretical study of human sexuality and related practice strategies. 2-6 credits. Prerequisite: NUR150 or equivalent; permission of instructor.

NUR468 Practicum in Theories of Human Sexuality:

A specifically designed practicum involving the application of theory and development of practice strategies in specific areas within the field of human sexuality. 2-6 credits. Prerequisite: NUR150 and NUR467 or equivalent; permission of instructor..
